Pot Luck Socials

Join us for an evening of good food and learning about the work of RPCV's in the local community. Speakers have included Carolyn Rose Avila (Venezuela) of FAVACA, Virginia Emmons (Niger) and Naomi Torfin (Niger) of Educate Tomorrow, and Edith McClintlock (Suriname) of the City of Miami's new Green Initiatives. Bring a favorite dish to share, ideally something ethnic and wonderful from a country of service. Contact any Board Member if you would like more information or if you want to have a gathering at your home in Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe or Palm Beach Counties.

The Everglades Outing is a traditional February social/service event. RPCVSF treats disadvantaged local children and their families to a day in the Everglades --- co-sponsored by Everglades National Park, Winn Dixie Supermarkets & Miami-Dade Department of Environmental Resource Management (DERM).

Cinco De Mayo

As usual, there is lots of food involved, but this time guests are asked to bring a Mexican food or beverage to share. Party is held at what has come to be known as the Peace Corps Compound - 2151 SW 17 St. Miami.   Party includes a Silent Auction to benefit an RPCVSF service program and there are  pinatas for all ages.

Nomination Picnic

With the help of Peace Corps Atlanta, this early summer picnic in a Broward County park brings together prospective PCVs, RPCVs, and family and friends of currently-serving PCVs. Everyone brings a dish to share -- ethnic if possible. Activities include a guided nature walk, basket weaving lessons and lots of networking.

Christmas Party & Gift Exchange

Early December pot-luck party rotates among members' houses. Guests bring a funny/bizarre wrapped gift for Chinese Auction. Big hits in recent years have been a Miami-Dade County voting booth (hanging chads included), a macarena-singing gorilla, a salsa-ing Santa and day-glow saddle shoes.
