The Colombia Project was established by RPCVSF in 2000 to partner with grassroots organizations in Colombia to provide micro-loans to small entrepreneurs affected by the violence in Colombia. 100% of funds raised in the U.S. are sent to Colombia where they are distributed as micro-loans. As those loans are repaid, 50% remains in a permanent loan pool and 50% is allotted to the grassroots organization to cover administrative expenses. As of 2011, The Colombia Project has supported more than 500 loans in 10 communities and has established permanent loan pools of $25,000. Through 2010, 44% of the loans issued in Colombia were funded through the permanent loan pools using funds repaid within Colombia.
