Everglades Outing

In 1990, RPCVSF expanded what had been primarily an outing for RPCVs and families and began to invite small groups of children for their first introduction to Everglades National Park, with RPCV members serving as guides and educators.  Starting in 2003, RPCVSF greatly expanded the number of children to 150 or so each year. Since the National Park Service has a goal to increase minority entrants to the Park, the Park Rangers welcomed RPCVSF assistance in achieving this goal and took over the major responsibility for the educational aspects of the tour. In 2008, RPCVSF invited other naturalist groups some of which have since sponsored their own similar outings with the results that even more South Florida children are introduced to the wonders of the Everglades.
